3D Forest Environment - Stylised Student Short Film

Sweet Trails is a fantasy story about a witch in training who’s exploring through the forest and unknowingly damaging nature and its creatures.

In our one minute thirty animation short, a naive witch is exploring the forest as part of her beginner training. Upon her travel, she’s unknowingly drops sweet wrappers from a worn out hole in her satchel, causing the forest to turn grey. Little does she know, the forest spirit is observing her actions, and plans to confront her.

I was in charge of creating all the backgrounds for my short animation project at university. We had 4 people working on this, and I learned a lot of new programs and how to merge the 3D backgrounds with 2D animation. All assets were sculpted by me and I put all the scenes together. Lots of tutorials on YouTube resulted in this toon-shaded style which fits a children's storybook feeling.
